Hey, it’s not often that we meet like this two days apart! But for a good cause, I’ve had to shake things up a bit. I’ve been asked to relay the Telethon on social networks. I’m really happy because it’s a cause that’s close to my heart. I’m extremely fortunate not to have any sick people in my family, but how can I remain insensitive to the families who fight the disease on a daily basis? So for the occasion, I’ve created this candy cake, which will be my contribution to the #telethongourmand. <\/p>\n

Before giving you the recipe, let’s take a look at the Telethon and the AFM Telethon, the organization behind the event.<\/p>\n

The AFM-T\u00e9l\u00e9thon is an association of patients and relatives of patients which, thanks to T\u00e9l\u00e9thon donations (93.8 million euros in 2015), has become a major player in biomedical research for rare diseases in France and around the world. Since the first Telethon, it has made bold scientific choices and encouraged the emergence of innovative therapies for rare diseases that were previously incurable. Today, the results are in: children suffering from rare diseases of the blood, immune system, brain and vision have been successfully treated by gene therapy. On the strength of these results, the AFM-T\u00e9l\u00e9thon is currently supporting 37 clinical trials involving 26 different diseases (genetic diseases of vision, blood, brain, immune system, muscle, etc.). Through its G\u00e9n\u00e9thon laboratory, it is also an atypical and unique association with the capacity to produce and test its own gene therapy drugs. <\/em><\/p>\n

The Telethon is an exceptional human adventure. Supported by 200,000 volunteers, 53,000 local associations, 10,000 communes throughout France and 60 national partners, the Telethon brings millions of people together every first weekend in December to support the fight of parents who have decided to say NO to fatality. <\/em><\/p>\n

This year, it’s the weekend of December 3 and 4 (so next weekend). And everyone can participate at their own level, by donating time and\/or money. I’m really pleased to be taking part today with this cake, because I think it’s great to be able to put one’s skills at the service of others for a change. For my entry, I wanted an easy, cheerful cake that gives you a peach at first sight (a tribute to those children who, despite heavy treatment, manage to have a banana and put us back in place regarding our everyday bobos!). A quick look on Pinterest and I had my recipe! <\/p>\n

Of all the recipes on the blog, this candy cake is by far the one with the most effort\/effect ratio! No sooner had it been placed on the office table than my colleagues were pouncing on it, asking me where I’d bought it (the average age of our staff must be around 35, which proves that it also works very well with older people!) <\/p>\n

In fact, it’s just a simple sponge cake sliced thickly, topped with Nutella and candies. Disconcertingly easy to make, but it’s sure to be a hit with your guests (so much so that I wondered why I usually bothered!). You can, of course, use any candy you like. In my case, you’ll recognize Kit-kat, Kinder bueno, smarties, M&M’s and chocolate c\u00f4te d’or in the center. It’s worth noting, though, that the more colorful it is, the prettier it looks. Next time, I’ll use a ganache instead of Nutella, as the sponge cake drinks Nutella a lot and it’s a bit tricky to spread. I’ll also put a little on top to help the candies stick together. <\/p>\n
